"The LORD watches over the sojourners;
he upholds the widow and the fatherless."
Psalm 146:9

You are a widow now.

The word itself feels heavy, foreign, like it belongs to someone else.

You never wanted this identity.

You were a wife—his wife—and now you're expected to be something you don't know how to be.

People use that word when they talk about you, and each time you hear it, something inside you recoils.

That's not who I am. That's not supposed to be my story.

But it is. And the weight of it threatens to crush you.

But here's what Scripture makes clear:
God sees widows!

Throughout the Bible, He names you specifically as someone He watches over, provides for, and defends.

You are not invisible to Him.
You are not forgotten.
You are held in His special care.

Insight: "Widow" may be a word you didn't choose, but it's a word God honors. You are seen!

Application: When the word "widow" feels too heavy today, remind yourself: "I am also God's beloved daughter, and He upholds me."

Reflection Question:
What does it feel like to be called a widow?
What do you wish people understood?

Prayer: Father, I never wanted this identity.
I wanted to be his wife forever.

Help me carry this new name, knowing You see me and will not abandon me.
In Jesus Name, Amen.

Author Howard Smith

As an ordained pastor, Howard has  stood beside many widows and their families in the hardest moments of their lives, helping them say goodbye to someone they love.

He has offered comfort and guidance in moments of profound loss.

Over the years, Howard has observed a recurring truth: grief doesn’t end when the funeral does.

For months, even years later, many continue to feel adrift, struggling to navigate the storm of emotions that comes with loss.

He likens grief to a foreign language—one that no one teaches, yet everyone expects you to understand and speak fluently.

Recognizing this need, he began leading support groups rooted in timeless psychological wisdom and Biblical principles.

These groups have become a lifeline, particularly for widows, who make up the majority of the participants.  For many, these gatherings have been a transformative experience—a safe space where they realize they are not alone in their pain.

Today, Howard is extending his reach beyond support groups through blogging, teaching, and building an online community.

His mission is to provide a beacon of light for widows navigating their grief, helping them rediscover comfort, connection, and a renewed path to happiness.
